Burni Aman & The Sciences SA TourWritten by Ryan Swano
Earlier this year we had her back home for the South African release of her album Sweet Science. Now based in Switzerland, Burni Aman, a former member of the legendary female Hip Hop group Godessa, has once again returned to homesoil, this time for a tour that includes shows in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria, sponsored by Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.
This collaborative tour with some of SA’s finest musicians, supported by pioneering Swiss MC, Black Tiger and Berne-based producer Meisterbeatz will not only appear in the major urban areas but also on the Cape Flats in Lavender Hill, from where Burni hails, and in Kraaifontein in the Northern Areas. Check out our Ticket Giveaway for the Kraaifontein show as well as our CD Give-away further below.
Her super group, The Sciences, are a wealth of talent comprised of Black Tiger (one of Switzerland’s top hiphop artists and a pioneer as the first MC to rap in the Basel-German dialect), Meisterbeatz (key Berne based producer on the album having recently collaborated with US hiphop artists’ Guilty Simpson and Jean Grae), Ruby Crowie (Drummer for Jimmy Nevis and The City), Congo born keyboardist Nelson Malela and Bassist Andre Hope (recent collaboration with country pop rock artist Gareth James).
With their diverse musical influences ranging from hiphop, future soul, afrobeat, funk, jazz, rock and reggae, they combine their musical prowess and sensibilities to create a hip hop experience that is appealing to both young and old with a blend of genres using spoken word and rap to communicate their views on life.
“Let us not forget that we are citizens of the earth, protectors of humanity, not individuals, not countries, we are our brothers’ keeper.” Alive, Burni Aman.
Burni Aman and The Sciences believe in community and that areas such as Lavender Hill and Kraaifontein deserve entertainment that can encourage people with similar aspirations. They will play in Cape Town at Straight no Chaser (28th Oct), Jubilee Hall – Kraaifontein (30th Oct), Hillary Drive – Lavender Hill (31st Oct). They will then head to Gauteng for a show at Bannister (4th Nov) and the Capitoli Festival at U the Space in Pretoria (7th Nov).
Bruinou.com and the organisers of the Kraaifontein Show will be giving two lucky readers each a set of Double Tickets to the Kraaifontein show and another two readers can each win a Sweet Science CD.
The winners of the CD's must preferably be able to attend one of the shows either in CPT, JHB or PTA in order to collect their prizes but a delivery arrangement will be made if a winner does not reside near any of the venues.
The competition closes at 6:00pm Wednesday 28 October 2015 and winners will be announced by noon on Thursday 29 October 2015
Judges' Decisions are Final and No Further Correspondence Will be entered into.
