Growing up in a Coloured area, with many women of colour, I’ve always wondered one thing, “Why are women of colour so angry?”. As a child, it always seemed unclear to me, there wasn’t one clear outlying reason for their anger, yet they all seemed to carry it on their weathered faces, as they went about their day.

While it is critically important that a united and detribalised front is evidentally necessary to eradicate white supremacist hegemony in the country, it can never be achieved in the short to medium term if the 2nd largest cultural group suffers from massive debilitating issues. The saying that collective strength is only measured by its weakest link rings true in this instance.

The seven Coloured warders who won a landmark affirmative action victory, have welcomed the ruling on Friday 15 July by the Constitutional Court that they be promoted within the Western Cape Department of Correctional Services.

Two people were killed and five injured, including an 8-year-old girl, in three shooting incidents in Hanover Park on Thursday.

Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said all three incidents took place on Thursday morning, hours apart from each other.

As if suffering the indignation of being forced to move there is not enough, a further clear violation of human rights, specifically children's rights is happening right under our noses as there are, according to the children's rights charity Molo Songololo, at least 43 children in Blikkiesdorp who are being denied enrolment in school.
