District Six - Kanala Returns to The Fugard for Summer Season
After numerous extension to its highly acclaimed first season, District Six - KANALA returns to The Fugard Theatre ON 22 NOVEMBER 2O16.
It is set to continue its magical celebration and recreation of the vibrant musical culture that was part of 1960's District Six.
Popular music that reverberated through Hanover Street, the Star Bioscope, the Tafelberg Hotel, the La Fiesta, the Drill and City Hall and the Green Point Track is exuberantly recreated by a fabulously talented cast.
Created by David Kramer to commemorate the declaration of District Six as a “whites only” group area in 1966, the musical produced by Eric Abraham for the Fugard Theatre, opened precisely 50 years to the day after the Group Areas Act declared District Six as a "whites only” area and played to capacity for 5 months.
Letter from Suburban Hell
I never found my piece of perfect suburbia but I found a row of old houses and a working class Afrikaaner community that had lived there from before the World Wars, many had escaped the brutality and inhumanity of Europe’s violence to seek out a better life in sunny South Africa. I bought one of those old houses via a bank loan, other than shoddy workmanship on the roof overlaps, the house is massive compared to the tiny houses with low ceilings that I was accustomed to in the townships.
Mr Table Tennis Film Explores a Generational Legacy in Sport
Mr Table Tennis is the inter-generational story of Pedro and Cody Meyer. Their story of big dreams unfolds against an ambiguous socio-economic climate. South Africa supposedly offers the world to its Born Frees, but these opportunities also seem to grow ever further beyond reach.
Bruinou.com spoke to Tina-Louise about her film opening at the Encounters South African Film Festival on Sunday 5 June 2016.

Blikkiesdorp Children Denied Access to Education
We have for the past few years been saying that there is nothing temporary about the abomination called the Symphony Way Temporary Relocation Area or as it is better known, Blikkiesdorp. Even if the people are moved to proper housing in the near future, they will be permanently stuck with all manner of scars.
As if suffering the indignation of being forced to move there is not enough, a further clear violation of human rights, specifically children's rights is happening right under our noses as there are, according to the children's rights charity Molo Songololo, at least 43 children in Blikkiesdorp who are being denied enrolment in school.
