It's officially the start of our festive holiday season and there will naturally be an influx of visitors to our beautiful city - visitors from other provinces in our country, as well as ones from beyond our borders. Of course we want everyone to feel welcome.
I have decided to provide some help to you, our dear visitors from all over, as you move around our city, attempting to understand the unique language which is spoken in our neck of the woods, as well as for when you try to get to grips with some of our cultural nuances.

Heading north into the Kalahari Desert leaving Upington Airport for the 182km trip to our first stop in Askham and then on to Rietfontein another 86km west on the R31, we were really impressed that the roads are in an absolutely superb condition.
A stretch of the R360 road is in fact where test cars with special permits are allowed to drive at up to 250kmh.

Letter from Suburban Hell

I never found my piece of perfect suburbia but I found a row of old houses and a working class Afrikaaner community that had lived there from before the World Wars, many had escaped the brutality and inhumanity of Europe’s violence to seek out a better life in sunny South Africa. I bought one of those old houses via a bank loan, other than shoddy workmanship on the roof overlaps, the house is massive compared to the tiny houses with low ceilings that I was accustomed to in the townships.
